Like most of us, you have probably been closely monitoring the news reports of the increasingly wide spread COVID-19 (Coronavirus). I hope you and your families are well.
The World Health Organization has called COVID-19 a pandemic, and health authorities continue to identify new cases of the virus. The Governments of Canada and the USA have suggested that the public not participate in public gatherings as there is an increased risk of spreading the Coronavirus. The border between the Canada and the USA is now closing to nonessential travel.
The Gyro International Executive along with the Victoria Gyro Club Convention Committee believes that the safety, health and wellness of our members are of utmost importance. Gyro International further believes it is our moral obligation not to engage in, or promote, any gathering that might put anyone at risk.
Even though the convention is almost three months away, we have received several inquiries from our members about the status of the convention. We have been in frequent discussions over the past few weeks with the Victoria Convention Planning Committee and have determined that we must, in good conscious, and in compliance with the Health Minister’s request, refrain from promoting any public gathering and therefore are cancelling the International Gyro Convention which was scheduled to be held on June 9-13, 2020 in Victoria.
The Victoria Club is in the process of contacting members who have already sent in registration payments to issue refunds.
We will need a bit of time to investigate the possibility of having the convention at a later date in the year and we respectfully ask for your patience.
In the meantime, it is important that members continue to practice social distancing and good hand hygiene. It is suggested that club meetings be on hold or meet via electronic communication until a time that it is safe to resume social interations.
We will continue to provide members with updates as they become available.
Yours in Gyro Friendship
Gyro International President
